About Me

Joshua David Baird (1979- ) was raised in a family which encouraged the arts. Born in Salt Lake City, Joshua’s early years were influenced by sculptors, painters, musicians, photographers and the distinctive Utah landscape. Joshua has always been fascinated by landscape; much of his free time while a youth was spent exploring the mountain and desert regions of the intermountain west. He explains;

“The landscape I experienced while growing up in Utah has always been the greatest catalyst to the production of my artwork. The earth is the greatest masterpiece, and I am always motivated to produce artwork while examining its light, texture, and form. The same principles of aesthetics that make the earth so awe-inspiring apply to good landscape painting. By identifying and applying these principles in harmony with my intent as an artist, I feel I can create a satisfactory image.”

Joshua studied Art at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and Utah State University in Logan, Utah and received a Bachelor of Arts in art and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Southern Oregon University. Joshua’s preferred medium is oil but he also enjoys pastel, watercolor, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. The primary subject found in his artwork is landscape.
